Unless you have been living in a cocoon for your entire life, we all know that that the natural environment is being affected by human actions. It is in the news, and it is being taught to our kids in school, governments are making statements and environmental organizations even purchase advertising to inform you of certain environmental issues. This information does not always lead to action, why is that? Are we just bad people or are there other reasons for us being so lackluster when it come to responding to environmental problems. Don't get me wrong I am not perfect in anyway, for one thing, I drive a 3.6L Automatic petrol vehicle around town.

SA managers optimistic for growth

1200 managers across South Africa, citizen scientists like you contributed to this research and supported education. The report explored a number of topics related to management and was compiled by Dr Carly Steyn (left) and Dr Diane Bell (Right). The majority of managers (67%) agree that organisations maintained motivation and engagement levels, a fact that is supported by our UNISA employee engagement research. The MIR also found that managers are positive (80%) about the efforts of their organisations to foster diversity friendly environments. Challenges to be overcome include clear and effective communication from top management. Almost half of managers surveyed top managers do not communicate clearly. Despite the obstacles to be overcome the MIR shows their is a good foundation for growth when it comes to business in South Africa.

70% of Employees see themselves as engaged

The UNISA employee engagement survey was conducted with 4000 South Africans. Above are the top-line results overall 70% of employees felt engaged. The study measures their engagement in six areas. These six areas include team work, organisational satisfaction, organisational commitment, customer service, immediate manager as well as strategy and implementation. It is thus concerning to see that 15% of all employees do not feel engaged taking into account all these measures. The study showed that employees overall felt happiest in their teams but found their companies strategies least engaging.
